Recently we had a new client come to us with a problem. The company that currently managed and hosted their website had a hard drive crash, and everything was lost.
6+ years worth of blog posts. Gone.
So we devised a solution. What if we could write a script that would “scrape” all her blog entries from Google cache, and build a file that we could then import into WordPress? Well, that certainly was possible. After some experimenting with the code, we were able to recover 99% of the client’s blog postings that were stored in Google cache.
We then designed a new website and implemented it on the WordPress platform.
This is a good reminder to make sure that you back up your website, database and files on a regular basis.
